2015 Ram 2500 Review

While the 2014 Rams came with significant changes, the 2015 Ram 2500 carries over with virtually no changes from its previous models.

One new feature that's available for 2015 is the powerful V8 engine, while the inline six-cylinder engine is available in an automatic or manual transmission, but you'll lose torque power with the manual option.

The 2015 Ram 2500 offers three engine options:

  • 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that produces 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft or torque
  • 6.4-liter V8 that produces 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque
  • 6.6-liter Cummins Turbo-Diesel inline 6 that produces 370 horsepower and 800 lb-ft of torque with automatic transmission and 350 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque with manual transmission
As you can see, there's less power and torque with the manual transmission option. In addition, fuel economy isn't available since the Environmental Protection Agency doesn't test heavy-duty trucks.

The 2015 Ram 2500 offers five trim levels:

  • base-level Tradesman
  • mid-level SLT
  • luxurious Laramie
  • Laramie Longhorn
  • Power Wagon

Ram 2500 Tradesman

This minimalist basic model doesn't come equipped with much in the way of comfort. Standard features include hand-roll windows and manual door locks, vinyl floor covering and upholstery, air conditioning, cruise control, a USB port, and an auxiliary jack.

Ram 2500 SLT

This model adds cloth upholstery rather than vinyl, power windows and door locks instead of manual, heated mirrors, chrome trim, and satellite radio.

Ram 2500 Power Wagon

If you intend to go off-roading in your truck, this is the model for you. This is the only model with available a four-wheel-drive Crew Cab. Other standard features include tow hooks, skid plates, a 12,000-lb power winch, and electronically locking differentials.

Ram 2500 Laramie

This Ram model is only offered with a Crew Cab or extra-long Mega Cab. It's luxurious features include automatic climate control in two zones, a rearview camera, an 8.4-inch touchscreen (center mounted for easy accessibility), power-adjustable pedals, heated and ventilated front seats, leather interior, and chrome alloy wheels. You'll be riding in style with the Ram 2500 Laramie.

The significant price jump between the SLT and the Laramie comes down to package options. There's the Big Horn package that adds extra chrome trim, steering wheel audio controls, an auto-dimming mirror, and fog lights. There's also the Outdoors-man model that mixes features from the standard and Big Horn options.

Ram 2500 Laramie Longhorn

In addition to all of the accessories previously mentioned, the Longhorn includes Park Assist, a remote starter, heated rear seats, and a navigation system.

In Short

Options for all of the models range from different body styles (Regular Cab, Crew Cab, or Mega Cab), engine choices, drive-train choices, and even transmission choices if you go with the 6.7-liter Turbo-Diesel.

On the Road

Even though you'll lose power with the manual Turbo-Diesel option, there are still many truck drivers who love to shift by hand, and the Ram 2500 is the only heavy-duty truck that will allow you to do that.

The front seats come in bench form, though there's an option for bucket seats in the higher range models. The interior is ergonomic, spacious for a variety of body types, and easily operable.

The Crew Cab offers plenty of room for passengers, and the Mega Cab comes equipped with enough leg room for basketball players.

The 2015 Ram 2500 comes with plenty to brag about and can easily function as an on-the-go work space or a comfortable, luxurious ride. Contact us to take a look at it.
