2016 Chrysler Town & Country Review

Long has the minivan reigned supreme in the category of the family hauler. Nothing provides a better way to get the clan from Butler, Kinnelon, or Bloomingdale to where you need to go.

Because of the popularity of the segment, there are many options to choose from in the mini-van field. One that has consistently been rated high and performed well is the Chrysler Town & Country. But does the 2016 Town & Country stack up to the competition? Let's take a look.

New for 2016

A new Anniversary Edition package trim level has been added to the line. It adds extra features on top of the midlevel Touring-L trim.

Trims and Drivetrain

The 2016 Town & Country is a seven-passenger minivan available in six main trim levels: LX, Touring, S, Touring-L, Limited, and Limited Platinum. There's also the Anniversary Edition that falls after the Touring L trim for 2016.

Every Town & Country model has a 3.6-liter V6 engine. It's capable of putting out 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a front-wheel drive six-speed transmission that's more than capable of getting the job done. The EPA estimates that this combination will get 17 city and 25 highway mpg-20 combined mpg-which is average for the segment.

A minivan that can carry everyone around is only truly great if it can keep everyone safe when doing so. That's why the Town & Country is a great option. It's rated at five of five stars in overall safety by government crash testing. It earned four stars for overall frontal impact protection and five stars for side impact protection.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the Town & Country a good rating, the best available, in the moderate-overlap frontal-offset impact test. It also earned the mark in the roof strength, head restraining, and side impact tests.

The Town & Country comes standard with anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, and active front head restraints. It includes a full set of airbags, including front seat side impact, driver knee, and full length side curtain. A rearview camera is also standard.

Optional safety equipment includes items such as rear cross-path detection and blind spot monitoring. These options come standard on the Touring-L, Limited, and Limited Platinum trims.

The Town & Country has long been known for having standard items that are optional upgrades for other manufacturers, and the trend continues for 2016. The large touchscreen front console paired with the quality leather seats makes the interior of the Town & Country stand out among the rest of the segment. There's plenty of room in the classy cabin for all passengers to sit back and enjoy the ride in comfortable style.
