2015 Dodge Challenger Review

Dodge's highly awaited facelift for the Challenger has finally arrived to give the pony an unsullied start in the muscle car fight against its rivals. While the 2015 Dodge Challenger pays homage to the 1970 and 1971 inspired classic units, underneath the Challenger is utterly modern with a spectacular infotainment system, keyless ignition, and an eight-speed auto transmission and additional features, including a redesigned interior, a tweaked suspension, and an electric power steering.

The 2015 Challenger is a good, old-fashioned car with all of the modern conveniences that you could ask for. Let's see what's new for the 2015 model.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2015 Challenger is offered in seven trim levels, with the five top trims being the SXT, R/T, Scat Pack, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat.

The base SXT starts with a V6 engine, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, 18-inch alloy wheels, an automatic climate control system, cruise control, full power accessories, a USB port, Bluetooth and audio devices, a six-speaker surround system, a Uconnect-5-inch touchscreen interface, and a voice command system.

The base R/T is similarly equipped to the base SXT on the inside, with the only differences being the addition of a 5.7-liter V8 engine, 20-inch wheels, fog lights, a rear camera, and an advanced braking system.

The Scat Pac trim starts with the R/T features and adds a 6.4-liter V8 engine, a revamped suspension, a Brembo braking system, front and rear spoilers, a navigation system, stability control, and four-way power lumbar support.

The SRT 392 starts with the Scat Pac and adds a distinctive hood with center scoop, leather upholstery, xenon headlamps, adaptive suspension dampers, and an improved braking system.

The SRT Hellcat starts with the features of the SRT 392 and adds a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine and a lot more standard features, including SRT performance seats, a distinctive hood, larger front and rear spoilers, a rear camera, a center scoop, and air extractors.

Other option packages can be specified via the options list or subtrims such as SXT Plus, Scat Pack Shaker, and R/T plus, which come with their own accessories.

In terms of safety, all trims are fitted with standard anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, and side-curtain airbags.

Engine and Performance

All 2015 Dodge Challengers are rear-wheel drive with anti-spin differential handling power. The base SXT is muscled by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that generates 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. According to EPA fuel economy estimates, the Challenger V6 returns 19 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Stepping up, the Dodge Challenger R/T gets a 5.7-liter V8 engine that's mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission. With the manual, the Challenger generates 375 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. However, when hooked to the automatic, output dips slightly to 372 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

According to EPA fuel economy estimates, the R/T returns 15 city and 23 highway mpg with the manual and 16 city and 25 highway mpg with the automatic.

While the transmission choices are the same as on the R/T, the Scat Pac trim boasts a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that generates a whopping 485 horses and 475 lb-ft of torque. EPA fuel economy checks in at 14 city and 23 highway mpg for the manual and 15 city and 25 highway mpg for the automatic.

Finally, the Challenger SRT Hellcat boasts a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that generates 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. According to EPA estimates, you can get 16 mpg with either transmission.
