2015 is the last year that Chrysler will offer the popular Dodge Grand Caravan seven passenger minivan, so now is the time to buy this functional model that has been a favorite for decades.Â
The Grand Caravan comes in four trim styles:
- AVP or base American Value Package
- SE and SE Plus
- SXT with a Plus package
- R/T Sport model
All models have the same V6 Pentastar 3.6-liter engine with 283 horsepower. A six-speed automatic transmission with quick start and good acceleration is included. The Grand Caravan is front-wheel drive, and it gets an EPA estimated is 17 city and 25 highway mpg.

Interior
The Stow 'n Go package sets the Grand Caravan apart from its competitors. Three rows of seats will accommodate up to eight passengers. The second and third row of seats can be folded flat into bins. These bins can be used for additional storage when the seats are up.
The back-row seats fold flat with an optional power system. A removable bench seat that holds up to three people can replace the two captain seats in the second row for eight-passenger seating.
The dashboard is uncluttered, and the UConnect navigation system can be added with the color touchscreen. The screen also works with the optional rearview camera and Park Assist safety system.
Three-zone climate control is standard with the Grand Caravan.
Exterior
The crosshairs grille has been improved, and the Grand Caravan has rounder headlights. The boxy body styling has remained the same for several years. The concept is to provide adequate headroom in all areas of the cabin. Because of the large windows, the Grand Caravan gives driver and passengers good visibility.
Safety and Technology
The newer generation of automobiles from Chrysler has emphasized safety using modern technology. Seatbelts along with front, side, knee, and side-curtain airbags are standard. The LATCH system for child car seats is also standard. So are the power anti-locking disc brakes and Electronic Stability Control. Automatic headlights are another safety feature.
The Safety Sphere package uses the latest technology with the blind spot warning system, a rearview camera, and ParkView parking assist. The rear cross-traffic monitoring increases safety.
The towing package features anti-sway technology through stability control. A Class II towing hitch, load and level height control, and a tow wiring harness make towing a boat or snowmobile on a trailer safer.
The UConnect Hands Free infotainment system connects Bluetooth for safe cell phone use. A navigation system makes finding your destination easier. This is combined with a USB port and optional equipment to create a WiFi hotspot in the vehicle.
A Blu-ray DVD player and screens can be added to the back seats for the enjoyment of passengers.

Crash tests ratings are important, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the Grand Caravan good marks for side and roof impact tests. Its head restraints and seatbelts proved good in all tests.
