With gas prices on the rise, finding ways to conserve fuel is on everyone’s mind. Dodge makes several high fuel economy vehicles, but drivers can further boost their miles per gallon by taking a few proactive steps, such as:
- Inflating your tires. Underinflated tires negatively impact fuel economy because of rolling resistance. By properly inflating your tires, you can improve fuel economy substantially.
- Driving a little slower. Every five miles a motorist drives over 60 miles per hour cuts fuel efficiency by 7 percent.
· Losing the heavy foot. Quick acceleration wastes fuel. By easing upward to faster speeds, you can improve your gas mileage. Stepping hard on the gas is estimated to decrease fuel efficiency 33 percent in the highway and by 5 percent in urban driving.
· Using the cruise – By driving a consistent speed, you avoid fuel loss from having to accelerate frequently. Cruise control can help you keep a consistent speed. When traveling on long trips where keeping a consistent speed is safe and practical, be sure to use your cruise control.
· Planning your trips – Plan trips to the grocery store, commutes to work, and other travel to be as efficient as possible to avoid extra driving. For example, by stopping at the grocery store on the way home from work instead of making a separate trip later, you can save fuel.
· Keeping up with the maintenance – By changing oil, filters, and belts, and taking care of other scheduled maintenance, you can keep your vehicle running efficiently and maintain good gas mileage.
