The Dodge Dart, Dodge’s compact car, may soon get a few tweaks to boost performance to help the vehicle fit in with Dodge’s new image as Chrysler’s performance car division. The new, more muscular Dart may hit Butler Dodge showrooms as early as 2017.

Much ado has been made of Dodge’s launch of the Charger and Challenger Hellcat muscle cars. The introduction of the 700 hp vehicles is intended to rebrand Dodge as a performance brand. Dodge is phasing out the Caravan minivan and reviving the Viper sports car as part of this change. The shake-up at Dodge is part of Fiat’s efforts to breathe new life into Chrysler.

Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis recently made the announcement that the Dart would be getting an extra shot of adrenaline. Kuniskis did not outline specific changes the company was considering, but did say the vehicle would be getting a performance boost in time for its 2017 update.

The Dodge Dart has a few edges in performance among compact vehicles, being bigger and sportier than the average compact car. The Dart has a standard 2.0 liter engine that produces 160 hp and 148 lbs. per foot of torque. Supercharged engines producing more horsepower and torque are also available.
