Chrysler’s trailblazing work on eight-speed transmissions is helping the auto industry achieve greater fuel economy, saving auto buyers money on fuel, reducing U.S. dependency on foreign oil, and reducing environmental impact. Auto buyers who want quality vehicles that get great mileage should visit their Butler Chrysler dealer

The Chrysler Group introduced the eight-speed transmission – called TorqueFlight – to two of its leading models in 2012. The company estimates that over the lifetime of just those vehicles, the new gearbox will save more than 700 million gallons of fuel. Gas prices aren’t headed downward any time soon, and geopolitical and environmental concerns make fuel economy an important concern on many levels.

Eight-speed transmissions help the engine maintain speed without having to work as hard as they do in vehicles with a smaller number of gears. This enhances fuel economy, particularly on the highway. Some city gains are also realized with this set-up.

Having realized success in improving fuel economy with eight-speed transmissions, Chrysler is now working on developing nine-speed transmissions to realize further gains. The company is installing the nine-speed gearbox in its Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart models. Other automakers are racing to catch up. Ford and General Motors are now working on 9- and 10-gear transmissions. Automakers are facing a 54.5 mpg by 2025 requirement, making every bit of fuel efficiency they can squeeze from their vehicles important.

For auto buyers who want greater fuel economy without sacrificing size or performance, Chrysler vehicles are a great fit. To schedule a test drive or talk with a sales rep at Precision Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, call 1-888-313-2410.
