Dodge is shaking some of the dust off its brand in coming years, restructuring to become a performance-car-only automaker. Auto consumers in New Jersey looking for an exciting new vehicle may want to put a visit to their Butler Dodge dealership on their agenda.

Dodge recently announced that the Charger and the Challenger will get upgrades in 2015 and entire redesigns in 2018. The brand is also reclaiming the Viper, which had been produced by another automaker for several years.

The Viper is an iconic vehicle for Dodge, so reintroducing it to the brand is expected to generate considerable excitement among auto consumers. The Viper had been transferred to Fiat-Chrysler’s short-lived SRT brand for a few years prior to this recent decision.

The changes for Dodge are part of a five year plan that the brand’s owner, Fiat-Chrysler, will implement to boost sales. The plan also works to avoid duplication among the several brands owned by Fiat-Chrysler. Dodge execs hope the brand will sell about 600,000 vehicles per year in 2018.

As Dodge regains the Viper, and refits the Challenger and Charger, it will be shedding some of its stodgier brands. Dodge will phase out its Caravan and Avenger models. Dodge will retain its Durango model vehicle. Dodge will also tweak its Dart and Journey models in 2016, with new amenities and features.

Muscle car and performance vehicle enthusiasts appear to be enthusiastic concerning Dodge’s “purification” strategy, believing the brand’s more singular focus will result in more powerful vehicles.
